incentives

Incentives shape the screen

The rule

Before you trust any prompt, ask what it is being paid to make you do. Like asking why the shopkeeper pushes today's special.

Where it flips

But a reward behind a message does not make every message false. It just means you must separate the useful fact from the action the screen wants from you.

You are surrounded by ranking lists, push alerts, referral links, and confident clips. Each one has a reason to exist, a reward behind it. Reading that reward often explains the feeling it stirs in you.

A worked example

A broker app cheers every action because action makes data, habit, spread, or brokerage for them. The prompt may still be useful, but it is not neutral.

How to spot it

  • ·ranking
  • ·everyone-is-doing-it proof
