Manufacture Your Own Luck
The rule
Build a real skill and a good name, so that chances come looking for you. That is luck you can build.
Where it flips
'Making your own luck' can turn into taking credit for plain good fortune and denying that chance exists. The fix: build the skill and name that tilt the odds, while staying humble that any single result still owes a lot to chance.
The best luck is not the kind you wait for. It is the kind you set a trap for. If you become truly good at one thing and known as reliable, good deals and good news start reaching you on their own, because people think of you. For an investor, the 'luck' of spotting a great chance early usually comes to those who read widely and are known as serious. It does not come to those refreshing tip channels. You cannot force one stroke of luck, but you can become the kind of person luck keeps finding.
A worked example
Because Vikram is known in his circle as the careful one who actually reads annual reports, a friend brings him an early, well-understood chance in an unlisted supplier. That is luck that found him because of his good name. [illustrative]
How to spot it
- ·chances arrive on their own
- ·known for a skill and for being reliable
- ·you set the conditions, not force results
