The rule

You get better at reading the future by treating your skill as never finished. Keep practising with honest feedback, not raw talent.

Where it flips

But endless tinkering with no steady method is just thrashing about. The fix is to keep one consistent process AND improve it on purpose. Grow the method, do not throw it out every week.

The best forecasters are not the smartest people in the room. They are the ones who keep improving. They make a call, check how it turned out, ask what they got wrong, and adjust, again and again. Like an app that is never "done", they stay forever in improvement mode. That is why steady practice with feedback beats a high IQ.

A worked example

Two equally clever people forecast for a year. One never checks her record and stays about the same. The other scores every call, studies her misses, and tunes her method. By year end she is clearly better. The practice, not the brains, made the gap. [illustrative]

How to spot it

  • ·calls checked against what really happened
  • ·misses studied, not buried
  • ·the method keeps getting better
