The Lock-In
The rule
A big EMI, one job, and a costly lifestyle are three locks chaining you to work.
Where it flips
Taken too far, you fear every loan and never buy a home or invest, sitting on idle cash out of fear. The repair is to judge each commitment by whether you can still cut it later, not to avoid all of them.
Many people feel stuck at work but cannot leave. Look closely and you find locks. A heavy loan EMI is one lock. Depending on a single salary is another. A lifestyle you cannot cut is the third. Each lock takes away your choice. Freedom does not start with earning more. It starts by quietly removing these locks, one by one.
A worked example
Rohan earns ₹80,000 but his EMI, car loan and rent eat ₹65,000. He cannot skip even one month of work. His neighbour Arjun earns ₹60,000, has no loans, and can walk away from a bad boss anytime. Fewer locks, more freedom. [illustrative]
How to spot it
- ·Cannot skip one month's pay
- ·EMIs eat most of the salary
- ·Only one income source
